Dear Comrade Raindorf,
We have pleasure in sending you a copy of our memorandum on the question of the ‘London Workers’ Committee’ and the ‘Scottish Workers’ Party’ that we have recently produced. We hope that you can take steps to inform the other parties as quickly as possible. From the point of view of the ACMLU these two organisations represent a very dangerous development, especially at the moment when the British Marxist-Leninist groups, after their long struggle to establish over three years ideological and political unity on the basis of Marxism-Leninism, are preparing to hold a Unity Conference in May 1967.
The preparations for the conference are making good progress, and we have now, a month after the publication of the latest edition of Hammer or Anvil, cadres who will participate in the conference from London, South Wales, Scotland, Surrey, Yorkshire, Lancashire and Hertfordshire. We are holding at the moment gatherings in each of these areas, with the aim of constituting a Preparatory Committee for the Conference, to choose members for the Committee, and to discuss various questions concerning the Conference. We hope to be able to announce the formation of the Preparatory Committee in two or three weeks.
It would be of great assistance to the Conference and to the Marxist-Leninist movement in Britain if the Communist Party of Belgium (M-L) could send a telegram or a letter with fraternal greetings from the Political Bureau. Naturally, it would be even better if it were possible for you to send a fraternal delegate, but if that is not possible then fraternal greetings would be sufficient.
We have already written to comrade Grippa, to give him information that we will send a member of the Preparatory Committee to Brussels to hold discussions with him and other comrades of the PB of the Belgian M-L Party. We hope that you will agree to hold such a discussion, which is necessary in order to inform you of details too numerous to explain in a letter. The comrade member of the Preparatory Committee who will visit you will be comrade [Dave] Volpe or [Bill] Bland.
The comrades of the ACMLU send their salutations and fraternal greetings...
Mike Baker, Secretary, ACMLU
