The Communist Party of Kampuchea (CPK) marked the 18th anniversary of its founding on September 28, 1978. The Central Committee of the CPML of the U.S. sent a message of congratulations to First Secretary Pol Pot of the CPK. Excerpts follow:
For 18 years, the Kampuchean people have been ably led by their Communist Party. The CPK led the people in battle against U.S. imperialism which received a crashing defeat at their hands. Today, in the midst of rebuilding their country, repairing the terrible damages done by U.S. imperialism, and building up socialism, the people of Kampuchea are again forced to confront a new aggressor, Vietnam, The aggressive schemes of Vietnam are doomed to defeat, like those of all previous aggressors.
The people of Kampuchea are united in their esteem, affection and loyalty to their Communist Party because it is the CPK which led them out of the dark past of hunger, exploitation, feudalism, and imperialist domination; and into the bright future of socialism and national independence.
Along with the love of the people, Democratic Kampuchea and the CPK have won the bitter hatred of U.S. imperialism and Soviet social-imperialism. Kampuchea has maintained a firmly independent, self-reliant and revolutionary stand. Because of its exemplary stand, it is threatened and maligned by both superpowers.
Our Party will continue to learn from and to draw inspiration from your firm Marxist-Leninist stand, your record of resolute revolutionary struggle, and from your future achievements. We are confident that the Kampuchean people led by their vanguard Party with comrade Pol Pot as leader will continue to win new victories in constructing socialism and in successfully defending national sovereignty and the Kampuchean revolution.
Long live the Communist Party of Kampuchea!
With internationalist greetings,
Central Committee of the Communist Party (Marxist-Leninist) of the United States
